It’s not the thoroughbred M7 that some BMW fans wanted, but it’s a start, as the new 760Li xDrive is the very first M Performance 7-Series. Besides; with 600PS from its turbo’d V12, it should be fast enough for most.
Under that long bonnet lies a massive 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 putting out 600PS (592hp) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 800Nm (590 lb-ft) at 1,500rpm on the road through a faster, M-tuned 8-speed automatic and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system modified to have a rear bias.
BMW quotes a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of 3.9 seconds, besting the current M5 by 0.4 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h (155mph).
Still, the M760Li xDrive isn’t actually the fastest and most powerful 7-Series you can buy from a BMW dealership, as that title goes to the Alpina B7 xDrive introduced earlier this week and which has a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 delivering 608PS (600hp) and 800Nm (590lb-ft) for a 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds.
The M760Li xDrive gets BMW’s Executive Drive Pro adaptive suspension system along with 19-inch M Sport brakes with blue metallic brake calipers, and exclusive to this model 20-inch alloy wheels in matte Cerium Grey metallic.
On the outside, the M Performance division gave a discreet makeover with reprofiled bumpers, side skirts and a pair of dual exhausts at the back, while inside, it carries a three-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles, sport front seats, a 330 km/h (205 mph) speedometer, aluminum pedals, and different trimmings such as the BMW Individual decorative inlays in Piano Finish Black.
