Mere days after images and official details about the 718 Boxster were released and we're getting our first look at its fixed-top twin. True, the 718 Cayman hasn't surfaced yet, but we are willing to bet it won't differ from X-Tomi Design's rendering.

Imagined here in range-topping Cayman S guise, it's inevitable that the new model will look virtually identical to the refreshed Boxster, sharing the same restyled body panels, headlights and thin LED daytime running lights.

In all probability, the facelifted and renamed Cayman range will also be offered with the 718 Boxster's all-new engines. If that's true, then the entry-level model will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 296 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque between 1,950 rpm and 4,500 rpm and the S with a 2.5-liter turbo four rated at an impressive 345 hp and 310 lb-ft from 1,900 rpm to 4,500 rpm. 

Beyond the gains in power over the outgoing 2.7-liter and 3.4-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinders, these new forced induction powertrains are up to 13 per cent more fuel efficient. It remains to be seen when the new Cayman will launch, but there's a good chance we'll see it alongside the updated Boxster at Geneva.
