When launched in dual-motor guise, the 85kWh battery pack for the Tesla Model S caused a massive stir in the industry thanks to its super car-rivalling performance. As we've come to expect from the Silicon Valley-based electric automaker however, it never rests on its laurels and soon after, unveiled the P90D with even more power, 762 hp to be exact, and performance previously unseen in a luxury sedan.
Given the similarities between the 85kWh and 90kWh battery packs, it doesn't come as a surprise that Tesla has quietly phased out the the 85kWh battery.
What this means is that the marque's flagship sedan is now only offered with a 70kWh battery in 70 and 70D guises as well as the 90kWh system in 90D and P90D specifications.
Beyond reducing production costs, the elimination of the 85kWh battery will also ease the buying experience by decreasing the number of available powertrains.
