This isn’t the first time Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and founder of Hendrick Automotive Group, has purchased VIN 001 of something special. For example, he bought the first, off the production line 2015 Corvette Z06 as well as the first editions for all four C7 Corvette variants. Over the weekend he made another major purchase at auction: the first 2017 Acura NSX. The hammer came down at the Barret-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona when Hendrick’s bid of $1.2 million for NSX VIN 001 wasn’t beaten.

His winning bid has also earned him the right to custom order his NSX. In fact, this set a new record auction price for a designated VIN 001 vehicle. As for that $1.2 million, all proceeds will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
