Audi has finally confirmed that the long-awaited Q8 is scheduled to arrive for the 2019 model year. This brand new model will actually come as Audi’s response to the BMW and Mercedes-Benz coupe-like crossovers. The 2019 Audi Q8 will be a sleeker version of the latest Q7 seven-seat SUV. It’s interesting to note that the upcoming Q8 will make its debut a decade after the segment was basically invented by the BMW X6.
After staying away from the SUV market segment for many years, luxury car automakers have realized what they have been missing. One such automaker is Audi. The automaker is now on a charm offensive and has already released the Q7, a coupe-like luxury crossover SUV. The automaker is also set to debut a bigger SUV which will slot above the Q7 to sit at the very top of the lineup. The new model will use the “Q8” nametag. In terms of performance and technology, the model will be at par with the A8 sedan. The 2019 Audi Q8 SUV will be underpinned by the MLB platform that also underpins the Q7, the VW Touareg, third-gen Porsche Cayenne and the yet to be released Bentley Bentayga.
The model’s structure will be made with high-strength steel while the body panels will use carbon fiber and aluminum to help maintain the model’s weight as minimum as possible. The base model is expected to weigh around 2,000 kg. Audi is specifically targeting the Chinese, North America and Middle Eastern markets where demand for premium SUVs is strong.
2019 Audi Q8 Price
It’s too early to talk about prices here, but it’s safe to assume that the R6 will fall between the TT and the R8. Chances are the new sports car will fetch more than the range-topping TT-RS, which will start from around $68,000 when it goes on sale in the United States, but it shouldn’t cost more than $80,000 in base trim. However, the top-of-the-line model loaded with all the optional goodies will most likely go into $100K territory. For reference, the R8 retails from $162,900 now that the V-8 model is no longer available.
