Typically, when a premium vehicle rolls out of the dealership, its value plummets like a skydiver, but with the current crop of hybrid hypercars, the opposite is true. At Bonhams recent Scottsdale auction, a stunning Alaskan Diamond White McLaren P1 managed to sell for $2.09 million, setting a new auction record for the car and well above its original $1.35 million sticker price in the U.S.

Of the 375 P1s produced, this example was number 371 and the final unit built for the U.S. market. It was originally shipped to McLaren Chicago at the start of 2015 and then delivered to an enthusiast in Florida. During the collector's ownership, the car was driven a mere 300 miles and evidently, the winner bidder decided it was worthy of a massive premium given its probability of becoming a collector's car.

Beyond the Alaskan Diamond White paint, the interior has been adorned with black and orange leather, particularly across the racing bucket seats. The interior also includes a number of alcantara elements, orange stitching, orange air vent surrounds and of course, a smattering of gloss carbon fiber components.

As we well know, the P1's twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 delivers 903 hp, making the hypercar one of the planet's most accelerative cars.
