Porsche’s newly launched four-door saloon, the second-gen Panamera, is a complex machine that can double as an elegant, luxurious limousine, or a pure-bred performance sports car. It all depends on how you configure it.  And now you can do it in Porsche’s official configurator. A word of warning though, be careful around the options list, because it doesn’t take that many clicks to bump the 4S’ base $99,900 price to the Turbo’s $146,900 starting MSRP (and the latter’s to ~$200,000).

Both models can be spec’d with a plethora of optional extras (some of them very expensive), including the Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System ($5,935), carbon-ceramic brakes ($8,960) and the front and rear ventilated, massaging seats ($4060).

Even the lesser 4S can be commissioned with carbon brakes and the Sport Chrono Package, reducing its 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) times from 4.4 seconds to 4.2, but the real performer is obviously the 550PS / 542hp and 770Nm / 568 lb-ft 4.0-liter Turbo S, which can top out at 306km/h (190mph) but not before achieving 100 km/h from standstill in 3.6 seconds, thanks to its 3.6 kg/hp power-to-weight ratio.

Nonetheless, the Turbo can abandon its sporty roots in favor of a more elegant approach, but we wonder, given the opportunity, how many customers will replace the carbon fiber inserts with wood?
